Statistics terminology
The Statistics uses specific terminology to describe the visitors of the Newsroom:
- Visit - every time a page is viewed by a visitor, the system will count it as a visit (page view).
- Visitor - a visitor is an IP address that visits a page. This IP address is connected to a computer that is being operated by a human or by an automated process (bot).
- Registered visit - human visits are being registered and most bot visits are being filtered. It's not always easy to distinguish a human visit from a bot but we're constantly improving the filter to end up with mostly human (real) visits.
- Total visits - total amount of registered visits for a set period. So if Alice, Bob and Carol are visiting a page two times each, this will be 6 visits in total.
- Unique visit - uniquely counted visitors on a specific page per day. So if Alice, Bob and Carol are visiting an article, this will be counted as 3 unique visits on that day. If Alice visits the page again a day later, it will be counted as 1 unique visit for that day but 4 unique visits in total (all days) for that page.
