What are the differences between the Contacts and Media Database contacts and lists?

In Presspage you have two types of contacts and lists: Under Contacts in the left menu you see your own uploaded contacts or contacts which have subscribed via the newsroom. Under Media Database you will find journalists from a global media database, Agility.

Media Database

We partner with Agility to give you access to over a million opted-in media contacts. You can run queries on this Media Database and save its contacts to a list. Since we do not store the contacts ourselves, they behave differently than contacts in your regular contact lists.

When you search the Media Database ánd when you look at your Media Database contact lists, you contact the Agility server (and not Presspage's) with which we have set up an API connection. The data that is shown in the Presspage Manager is data that Agility has on this Contact.

In practice, this means that the biggest difference (with a regular contact) is that you cannot edit the email address and other details of a Media Database contact, because Agility keeps this data up to date.

Contacts in multiple lists

It's also possible that you have a contact in your regular lists that also lives in one of your Media Database lists. In that case, you cannot edit the email address in either environment. In such a case, there are a few options: delete the contact from the Media Database, create a new contact with the changed email address, or submit a research request through Support to have the Media Database contact updated.

Unsubscribe status

Contacts that unsubscribe, and are stored in both Media Database lists and regular contact lists, will be unsubscribed from both. Contacts can also unsubscribe from the Agility database by contacting Agility, in which case they will be removed from the Media Database and from the Media Database lists upon synchronization.

Send email (campaigns)

If a campaign is sent to a shared contact, the platform will 'select' the contact from your own distribution list over the Media Database list. Making sure the recipient only received the email once.

Incorrect contacts

If you come across any incorrect Media Database contacts, please reach out to Support so we can ask Agility to update their database. When you select any Media Database Contact prior to sending out a campaign, the platform will sync the contact details with the Database so the right information is always visible. 

Media Database lists are not dynamic

When you save results of your Media Database query to a list, it’s good to remember that this list is static: it will not automatically update with new contacts that match the same search query.
