Create Media Database Lists

The Media Database is a list of over 1 million global journalists, bloggers, influencers and other media contacts. All contacts have been vetted and have opted-in to the database following GDPR procedures.

Table of contents

  1. Select Contacts in the top navigation.
  2. Select Search in the side menu.
  3. Search for - select one of the categories from the Search for dropdown and use the corresponding fields and filters to create a search assignment. It is not possible to combine fields from the different categories into a search:
    • People (and Outlets) - Search the Media Database for journalists or outlets. 
    • Keyword - Search for a topic in media coverage and based on location.
    • Specific Person - Search for a specific person based on their name or email address.
  4. When you have set the filters click View results. The platform will start searching and generate a list of corresponding journalists based on the fields and filters. 
  5. Once ready you can find the generated contacts under the Search Results 
  6. (de)Delect any of the contacts you wish to include in a MD List.
    • Select a name to open the Contact detail page
    • Select a outlet to open the Outlet detail page. Here you can also find the company email address if you wish to use those.
  7. Use the pagination to review all result pages. The platform saves any (de)selected contacts when moving to other pages.
  8. Once ready selecting Contacts, click Import contact(s) to a list. 
  9. This opens the Add contacts to a list screen. Here you can fill out the list settings:
    • Add the contacts to an existing list - Under Select lists select one or more lists the Contacts are added tomedia-db-lists.png
    • Create new list - After selecting Create new list, fill out the list title in the Title field.
    • Access - If your newsroom is published in different languages, assign the list to the right language in the Access dropdown

    • Back to search results - If you wish to make changes to the selected contacts click Back to search results, the current selection of contacts will not be added to a list.
  10. Once ready click Save to confirm the changes. 
  11. The import of the Media Database contacts will start and might take a few minutes to complete. During that time the list will not be accessible. Once ready you can find the list under Lists in the side menu.

Note:

When you select any Media Database Contact the platform will sync the contact details with the Database so the right information is always visible.

Searching for People and Outlets

The category People is divided two sections with filtering fields, People and Outlets. The filtering fields are lists of predefined topics which you can search. Select one or more topics from the different fields to create a search, it is possible to combine fields from the two sections: 

People

  • Writing about - Search for the subjects the journalists write about.
  • Publishing in - What languages the journalist is writing in.
  • Locations - Where the journalists are geographically based.
  • Job role -  The job title of the journalist. 

Outlets

  • Outlets - Organization's name
  • Media type - Main media format of the outlet (media group, online, print, television, and radio)
  • Product / Organization type  
  • Coverage focus - The size of the coverage (community, local, regional, national, international)search-subjects.png

Search condition: OR - AND

To widen or narrow the search use the Search condition dropdown to define how the platform combines the selected filters:

  • AND operator - Narrow the search by choosing AND, for example: writing about subject A AND subject B
  • OR operator - Broaden the search by choosing OR, for example: writing about subject A OR subject B

Searching for keywords

The Keyword category can be used when you're looking for media writing about a topic of your interest. The results are from media contacts who have written about a topic in the past 90 days.

Use the two fields to enter a search. The search condition used is always an AND operator, for example: Keyword 'sports' AND Location 'New York'.

  • Keyword - Type any topic or keyword, this is not based on a predefined list of topics
  • Location - Predefined list of locations which you can search.choosing a keyword
