Adjust the slug for pages with recurring titles

This article explains how to fix duplicate slug errors in Presspage when you reuse the same title across multiple Pages, such as recurring press releases or quarterly reports.

Presspage automatically generates a slug — the unique part of a Page's URL — based on its title. This applies to both articles and custom pages. If you publish more than one Page with the same title, Presspage tries to create the same slug again, which isn't possible, since URLs must be unique. This can cause errors or prevent the Page from publishing.

If you regularly reuse titles, for example naming every quarterly update "Share Buyback," you'll need to manually adjust the slug each time to avoid this conflict.

Example:

  • Title: Share Buyback
  • Default slug: media.yourcompany.com/share-buyback
  • Adjusted slug: media.yourcompany.com/share-buyback-september-2025

Adjust the slug

  1. Go to the Pages dashboard.
  2. Find and open your Page.
  3. Scroll to the Page details section.
  4. Locate the Slug field. By default, it matches your Page title.
  5. Click inside the Slug field.
  6. Add extra detail to make the slug unique.
  7. Click Save.

Good options for added detail:

  • Month or year, e.g. -september-2025
  • Reporting cycle, e.g. -q2-results

Result

Your Page now has a unique slug and URL, even though it shares a title with earlier Pages. You can publish it without a conflict.

Best practices for slugs

  • Keep slugs short and clear.
  • Add a date or reporting cycle to every Page with a recurring title, so you don't hit this error again next time.
