Presspage is always optimizing and looking for ways to improve SEO for newsrooms and articles.
Listed below are various ways in which we aim to contribute to your (on-site) SEO.
Domain / hosting
The main SEO integration we provide is that all newsrooms are hosted on the domain of our clients. This ensures all SEO credit goes to the domain of our clients, not to Presspage.
Subfolder integration
We offer the option to integrate the newsroom on a subfolder level: www.example.com/news
. This is a cleaner integration as it is visually in line with the URL structure of a website and the deeper integration is considered to be more SEO-friendly.
Title tag
A title tag is an HTML element that specifies the title of a web page. Title tags are displayed on search engine results pages as the clickable headline for a given result, and are important for usability, SEO, and social sharing. Presspage automatically generates a title tag but can be overwritten by the User. Its length is optimal - between 10 and 70 characters (spaces included).
Meta Description tag
The meta description tag in HTML is the character snippet used to summarize a web page's content. Search engines use these snippets in search results to let visitors know what a page is about before they click on it. The platform automatically generates a meta description but can be overwritten by the User. Ideally, a meta description should be between 70 and 160 characters (spaces included).
Meta Keyword tags
The importance of meta tags is that the search engines read them in order to compare if these keywords and the description are related to the visible content. The platform automatically generates meta keywords but these can be overwritten by the User. Ideally, a maximum of 10 keywords is advised.
Favicon
A favicon is a small, iconic image that represents your website. Favicons are most often found in the address bar of your web browser, but they can also be used in lists of bookmarks in web browsers and feed aggregators. Which not directly contributing to SEO, including a Favicon will improve the user experience and help the newsroom stand out in search engine result pages.
SEO friendly URLs
It is very important the URL for your page contains your keyword phrase and is no longer than 100 characters. Short, descriptive URLs are optimal and should describe the content on the page as good as possible. The platform automatically generates a Friendly URL (slug) but can be overwritten by the User. Ideally, a maximum of 100 characters is advised.
Heading tags
HTML Heading Tags are an important way of signalling to search engines what your page is about. A good heading structure is one of the most important accessibility considerations for pages. Headings provide context and a way to navigate through pages and allow us to scan either visually or with a screen reader, in order to find content we are searching for.
The h1 tag should contain your targeted keywords, ones that closely relate to the page title and are relevant to your content. The h2 tag is a subheading and should contain similar keywords to your h1 tag. Your h3 is then a subheading for your h2 and so on. The platform automatically generates headings but these can be overwritten by the User.
Image alt attributes
The alt attribute is the HTML attribute used in HTML documents to specify alternative text (alt-text) that is to be rendered when the element to which it is applied cannot be rendered.
One of the most uses of alt attributes is to provide text for visitors who can't see images in their browsers. This includes visitors using browsers that cannot display images or have images display disabled, visually impaired visitors, and those visitors who use screen readers.
The alt attribute's descriptive information is also being used by search engine crawlers as they navigate the site.
The platform automatically generates alt texts for all images.
XML Sitemaps
XML Sitemaps are important for SEO because they make it easier for Google to find your site's pages. This is important because Google ranks web pages, not just websites. The platform automatically generates sitemaps for each Newsroom.
Analytics
Web analytics lets you measure visitor activity on your website. The platform provides basic Analytics but supports all major Analytic tools.
Page size Info
The faster a page loads, the better it gets indexed by search engines and the better the user experience is. The platform strives to optimally reduce page sizes and page load times by making use of caching, GZIP compression and minification of files.
- Caching
Caching is the temporary storage of web documents such as HTML pages and images. The web browser stores copies of web pages you've visited recently to reduce its bandwidth usage, server load, and lag. The platform automatically caches every page to improve load times of articles and Newsrooms. - GZIP Compression
Gzip is a file format and a software application used for file compression and decompression. The platform has this enabled to further reduce the page size which improves the page load times. - Minification
All library files used to display Newsrooms and articles are minified to reduce file sizes which improve the page load times.
Responsive pages
The platform automatically creates responsive Newsrooms and articles which allows it to render properly on all kinds of devices (desktops, tablets, and phones). This will ensure good user experience for users.
Social activity
Social activity is important for brand awareness and returning visitors. The platform allows users to add multiple Social Media Modules but also automatically integrates social interaction modules. Visitors can simply click on a button to share pages to Facebook, X, LinkedIn and many more.
SSL enabled
SSL helps to secure the transfer of information on your server and Google also uses it as a positive ranking indicator. Any newsroom hosted with Presspage will have an SSL certificate installed.
