To create a new article, click on the Add Page button in the top left corner. You can find instructions on how to create a brand new page here. It's also possible to create a template for future articles.

Pages are divided between several categories: Scheduled, Draft articles, Published pages, Custom Pages, Templates and the Media Library.
A flag icon means the article has been published in that particular language only, if you see > instead of a flag it will take you to a dropdown and show the article in all available languages.
Hovering over each page gives you several options:
The 'view' button will take you to the live link for published pages, and to the preview link for any other pages.
The 'edit' option will take you to the article editor.
'Page Settings' allows you to edit the page name and enter a short description, as well as turn this page into a template for future articles. Editing the page name via 'Page Settings' will not change the title of your article, nor the URL.
The 'Statistics' link takes you to the statistics view for this particular article, and, finally 'Delete' will remove the article.
